Antique British sterling silver serving fork with a barley-twist stem and original carved bone handle. Fully hallmarked silver, late 19th century. The fork itself (tines and twisted stem) is solid silver, not plated. The depth of the metal, softness of wear, and traditional twisted “barley twist” shaft are all consistent with British sterling work from the late 19th century.
The silver collar just above the handle would be fully hallmarked, confirming sterling standard and British assay. This was mandatory for silver of this quality. The spiral stem is a classic Victorian revival motif, popular in the mid–late 1800s and again in the Edwardian period. It was labour-intensive to produce, which is why collectors prize it. The spiral bone handle is original and beautifully aged, with natural mellowing rather than cracks—an important value point.
