Before skyscrapers, traffic jams, and Pret on every corner, there stood this grand institution, founded in 1721 by Thomas Guy.
The print itself appears to be an aquatint, a printmaking technique adored in the 18th and 19th centuries for capturing fine architectural details and atmospheric tones. In this piece, the stone courtyard, stately windows, and lone wanderer make you feel as if you’ve wandered into the 1700s.
