Pierce Egan's "Life in London" was one of the most talked-about publications of the Regency era — a picaresque tour of London society illustrated with hand-coloured aquatints by the Cruikshank brothers. This plate depicts Tom and Jerry sparring at the famous Bond Street boxing rooms of "Gentleman" John Jackson — champion of England and trainer to Lord Byron. Jackson's rooms were the most fashionable sporting venue in Regency London, frequented by aristocracy and literary figures alike. A significant scene for collectors of Regency social history, boxing history and London ephemera.
