This beautifully detailed Johnson Brothers dinner plate features the “Devonshire” pattern, a charming multi-coloured transferware design produced in England during the early to mid-20th century. The rim is richly decorated with scrolling acanthus flourishes, stylised wildflowers, and perched songbirds, all set against a soft brown transfer outline with hand-tinted washes of rose pink, teal blue, buttery yellow, and leaf green.
The plate has a textured fluted edge, adding dimension and a refined finish. It showcases the warm ivory tone typical of Johnson Brothers earthenware of the period and reflects the maker’s reputation for producing durable yet decorative tableware.
The backstamp reads “Devonshire – Johnson Bros – England”, along with the 1913 patent reference noting their underglaze and acid-resistant colours. This places production likely around 1930s–1940s.
