This vibrant hand-blown Venetian vase, with its delicate ruffled rim and swirling orange-and-white pattern, is a joyful example of Italy’s celebrated glassmaking tradition. The ruffle-top form was especially popular in the mid-20th century, when Venetian artisans began experimenting with playful silhouettes and bold colour blends that set their work apart from classic Murano glass.
Venetian glassmaking dates back to the 13th century on the island of Murano, where master craftsmen pioneered techniques such as latticino (delicate glass threads), sommerso (layered glass), and aventurine (metallic inclusions). By the 1950s–70s, workshops embraced modernist tastes—introducing lively hues and organic forms like this piece, making them both functional vases and sculptural accents.
